BackStoppers, Inc

Started in 1959, The BackStoppers provides needed support and financial assistance to the spouses and children of all local and county police officers, firefighters, publicly-funded paramedics and EMTs and volunteer fire protection units, who have lost their lives performing their duty. Deaths from natural causes, illnesses or injuries are outside the organizations scope. The BackStoppers provides assistance to counties served by Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop C in Missouri and Illinois State Police District 11 in Illinois and Cape Girardeau County in Missouri.

 

USO of Missouri

THE USO OF MISSOURI, INC. is a private, non-profit organization, whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare, and recreation-type services to our military personnel and their families."

The James S. McDonnell USO, located on the lower level of Terminal 1 at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, was established in 1981 and named for James S. McDonnell, founder of McDonnell Aircraft. The Dennis Jones Family Foundation Mobile USO was added to the outreach efforts in 2005. The unit travels throughout Missouri and Illinois to take the services and the USO spirit straight to the troops. In mid-2006, the 18,000 sq ft. Ft. Leonard Wood USO was added to the services lines of the USO of Missouri. The Terminal 2 Satellite facility, located on the lower level of Terminal 2 at Lambert-St. Louis International Airport, was established in 2007 and made possible by the generosity of the Joan and Vern Wendt family. Since 1981, over 5 million traveling military and their families have benefited from the services provided by the USO of Missouri, Inc. The USO of Missouri provides services and smiles to more than 209,000 military personnel and their families annually. The USO of Missouri and all outreach functions are governed by a board of directors and funded solely by the generosity of our donors. The USO of Missouri serves the military and their families in the state of Missouri and the Illinois counties of Jersey, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair. The USO of Missouri is not funded by the government, military or the United Way. and are not part of the Department of Defense.  We are financially independent from the National USO.
